Description
Maker’s 46 was created by Bill Samuels Jr., son of Maker’s Mark founders Bill and Margie Samuels, as the first new major expression since the original bourbon was released in 1958. Its name comes from the French oak stave profile used to finish it, designated Stave Profile No. 46 by the Independent Stave Company.
Production begins with fully matured, cask-strength Maker’s Mark. Ten seared French oak staves are placed inside each barrel and the whisky completes its maturation in the distillery’s limestone cellar in Kentucky. The French oak adds toastiness and spice to the soft, wheated character of the original.
- Nose: Toasted French oak, caramel and baking spice.
- Palate: Gently sweet, with layers of vanilla and spice.
- Finish: Velvety, subtle and fairly long.
How to serve: Sip it neat or over a large ice cube, or stir it into a Manhattan with sweet vermouth and Angostura bitters, garnished with orange peel and a cherry.
Maker’s 46 is available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
