Description
Highland Park has distilled in Kirkwall, on Orkney, since 1798, and still turns some of its own barley by hand on traditional malting floors. The island’s heather-rich peat gives the whisky a fragrant, gently smoky character quite different from the medicinal style of Islay. Viking Honour is the heart of the range and a fine introduction to the distillery. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
- Nose: Fresh and aromatic, with floral notes, creamy honey and citrus.
- Palate: Full-bodied, with grilled citrus, toasted grain, green tea and jasmine over a touch of sweetness.
- Finish: Fairly long, with peppery spice and wood shavings.
Enjoy it neat, with a splash of water, or in a smoky Highball with soda and a twist of orange. A versatile island malt, available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
