Description
The Nonino family has distilled grappa in Friuli, in north-east Italy, since 1897, and is widely credited with changing how the world sees the spirit. In 1973 the family distilled the pomace of a single grape variety separately for the first time, creating the first single-varietal grappa and helping to lift grappa from a rustic farmhouse spirit to a fine distillate.
Grappa Nonino is made from fresh grape pomace distilled in small batches in copper steam stills at the family distilleries in Percoto, a careful, artisanal method that keeps the aromas of the fruit intact. The result is a clean, fragrant grappa with a smooth, elegant palate. The distillery is still run by the Nonino family today.
Serve it lightly chilled in a small tulip glass as a digestif after a meal, or add a splash to an espresso for a classic caffe corretto. Available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
