Description
The Glenrothes distillery, founded in 1879 in the Speyside town of Rothes, built its reputation on vintage releases, bottling whisky from a single year when the Malt Master judged it at its peak. Select Reserve took a different approach: a vatting of several ages, selected to capture the consistent character of Glenrothes rather than one particular year. From 2010 to 2017 the brand was owned by the London wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd, whose name appears on this label.
The label describes its character as ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and hints of spice, and in the glass it is smooth and mellow, with a honeyed sweetness that makes it very approachable. It is best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water, and also works beautifully in a Highball.
Select Reserve has since been discontinued, so this is a chance to find an older Glenrothes bottling. Available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
