While most modern distilleries use more efficient condensers, Craigellachie retains traditional worm tub condensers. These coiled copper pipes, cooled in large tanks of water, give less copper contact during distillation, preserving the heavy, meaty and sulphury notes behind this whisky’s muscular character. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then split between first-fill sherry and first-fill bourbon casks before being married together, it is bottled at 46% ABV.
