Description
Compass Box Celestial is the fourth and final release in the whiskymaker’s Extinct Blends Quartet, a series that reimagines the style of long-lost Scotch blends. Celestial looks back to a smoky blend of the 1950s and 1960s, linked to one of the original whisky barons, whose key components reportedly came from an Islay and a Speyside distillery. Whiskymaking Director James Saxon built this modern interpretation around smoky malt from Ardbeg and Caol Ila, with Glen Elgin and Pulteney adding creamy oak and brightness. Bottled at 50% ABV with natural colour and without chill filtration, it was a limited global release of 5,532 bottles, and editions like this are followed closely by Compass Box collectors. The label’s Pegasus artwork rises from a smoky cloudscape.
- Nose: Heavy peat smoke opening onto ginger, vanilla and grilled apple.
- Palate: Dry and oak-led, with meaty smoke giving way to cooked tropical fruit.
Enjoy it neat in a Glencairn glass, or add a few drops of water to bring the fruit forward beneath the smoke. Available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
