Description
Bowmore was founded in 1779 in the village of the same name on the shores of Loch Indaal, making it one of the oldest distilleries on Islay. It still turns some of its own barley on traditional malting floors, and its seaside No. 1 Vaults are among the oldest whisky maturation warehouses in Scotland.
The 12 Year Old is the heart of the range, matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 40% ABV. Bowmore sits in the middle of the Islay peat spectrum, so the smoke is present but never overpowering, letting honeyed sweetness, citrus and a dark chocolate richness come through, with a gentle sea salt edge.
Enjoy it neat, with a little water, or over ice. It also pairs well with seafood and dark chocolate. An ideal first step into Islay whisky, available from Decanter Liquor with delivery across South Africa.
