Description
From the Ardbeg Distillery to Port Ellen and beyond, follow the rocky coast and you will discover the heavenly vista of Traigh Bhan (pronounced tri-van), the beautiful beach known locally as the Singing Sands…For this captivating place has soft white sands that sing beneath your feet, a hum that ebbs and flows with the winds and the tides. But beguiling as this place is, do not drop your guard. Bathing is ill-advised in the seemingly tame crystal waters where jagged, volcanic rocks pierce the sands along the shore. Bottled in humidity, this rare small batch 19-year-old Ardbeg is arguably the most tropical dram to leave the Distillery. Established in 1815, Ardbeg is revered by connoisseurs around the world as the peatiest, smokiest and most complex of all the Islay malts widely available. Despite its smokiness, Ardbeg scotch is renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon that has affectionately become known as ‘the peaty paradox’. A new permanent expression set to be released in limited batches each year, Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 Year was matured in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose is sweet wood and crème fraîche with cold notes of roasted tea leaves, fennel, leather, eucalyptus and pine. The flavor of the dram transforms into an intensely salty mouthfeel with medicinal notes which flow into a rich fudge, tar, and peat smoke palette. The satisfyingly long finish is smoky, savory, sharp and intense. This 19 year scotch from a highly sought after collection is best by itself to experience the layered journey of flavor.
