Description
The Week Of Peat story begins with distillery manager Ian Millar’s eagle eye spotting a weeks gap in the distillery schedule. Eager to experiment with The Balvenie profile using what he had learnt from a recent trip to Islay, he ordered a batch of Speyside peat for the kiln and built a peat burner on the side “for, well, extra peatiness”. The whisky produced is rich in honey, vanilla and citrus notes with an extra layer of delicate smoke. Aged for 17 years, the gentle smoke and vanilla sweetness is the perfect finish. For one week each year, Speyside’s Balvenie distillery mixes things up, switching from its usual unpeated style, to producing peated single malt with Speyside peat! Inspired by his findings on a trip to Islay, distillery manager Ian Millar initiated the annual project, proving that it’s not all about Islay when it comes to splendid peated whisky. The classic honeyed sweetness of this deliciously rich malt brings marvellous balance to layers of elegant smoke.
